Her neighbor’s husband died. She knocked on the door. No answer. The house was two stories, she might not have heard it.

She took out the trash that night, tiptoed to peek into the backyard. A blue glow against the white fence. Dull, then bright, then dull again.

Sean Pravica is a Californian writer and the author of Stumbling Out the Stable. His next book, Hold Still Fast, is a collection of 200 stories 50 words and under, and is due out in May from Pelekinesis Press.
