I see no shadows
on this cold gray afternoon.
The dog
whimpers in her sleep.
Outside, the hare
does not move. The next day,
snow has melted
in an outline of her shape.

 

Julie Shulman is a writer and art director living near Boston with her husband and three boys. She recently completed her MFA in poetry at Pacific University.
