Where We Went

We all ended up at Ricky’s grandma’s house when we died. One by one. Time’s weird here — works a little different. But most of us made it in time for supper. Gran had tea on the boiler and cookies ready when you showed up. Jeff was late, of course.

She asked if y’all had skipped school again to chase the Grateful Dead. Her judgment, poorly masked.

I’d tell you to worry about your futures… she had started. Then stopped.

We laughed in unison, like a sitcom from the other side. Eternity wasn’t all that. But it wasn’t bad with friends.
